Boiler news and marketing in Ontario

Ontario is Canada's largest boiler market and the busiest for regulatory change: TSSA adopted CSA B51:24 in 2025, a new gas code amendment with boiler clauses took effect in June 2026, and inspection certificate fees rose in January.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Ontario has more boiler work than any other province, and in 2026 it also had the most regulatory change. TSSA moved the province to CSA B51:24 in August 2025, published a new gaseous fuels code adoption document with boiler-specific clauses that took effect in June 2026, and raised boiler and pressure vessel inspection certificate fees in January. A boiler company that explains those changes clearly has a real advantage.

The Ontario boiler market and its buyers

The short answer: a huge stock of older hydronic homes, dense multi-unit buildings, and very different conditions north and south.

Statistics Canada's 2023 data shows 58% of Ontario households heated primarily with natural gas, 18% with electricity and 4% with propane. Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and London have large numbers of older homes with radiators, and the Greater Toronto Area has thousands of apartment and condominium buildings with central plants. Northern Ontario has longer, colder seasons and more propane and oil.

Buyers range from homeowners replacing a 30-year-old cast-iron boiler to condominium boards and property managers commissioning plant-room upgrades.

Current programs relevant to boilers

As of October 2026, and to be confirmed with each administrator:

  • Home Renovation Savings. Run by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas, it offers rebates for heat pumps, insulation, windows, air sealing and other upgrades. Gas boilers aren't a headline measure, but customers will ask about it.
  • Energy Affordability Program. Save on Energy's income-eligible program provides free upgrades, including cold-climate heat pumps for some oil-heated homes for a limited time.
  • Ontario had no federal Greener Homes Affordability agreement as of late October 2026.

How we'd approach marketing in Ontario

  1. Explain the CO check before customers meet it. A short page on what to expect during heating-season service on certain natural-draft boilers will save your office calls. Our regulation content service writes these.
  2. Separate residential and commercial. Condominium boards and property managers need their own pages and campaigns.
  3. Go city by city. Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton are different markets. Build real local pages, not copies.
  4. Use both parent resources. For Ontario-specific HVAC marketing, our parent brands HVAC.Agency and HVAC.Digital publish further guidance.

Seasonal rhythm in Ontario

Ontario's boiler calendar now has a regulatory marker. The heating-season CO check in FS-279-26 applies from October 15 to April 30, so service visits in that window on certain natural-draft boilers carry extra steps. A sensible marketing calendar:

  • August and September: maintenance campaigns, and a page explaining what customers can expect during heating-season service.
  • October to December: replacement campaigns in the GTA, Ottawa and Hamilton, with commercial outreach to property managers before budgets close.
  • January to March: emergency and no-heat ads scaled to demand.
  • April to July: content, website work and follow-up on deferred quotes.

Northern Ontario's season runs longer and colder, so campaigns there should start earlier and end later.

We are a marketing and business consulting service for boiler and heating companies, not a contractor.

Frequently asked questions

Who regulates boilers in Ontario?

TSSA, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, is responsible for both fuels safety and boilers and pressure vessels in Ontario. Only TSSA-registered fuels contractors using certified gas technicians may do fuels-related work.

What changed for Ontario boiler work in 2026?

TSSA's gaseous fuels amendment FS-279-26 took effect on June 1, 2026, with clauses on low-water cut-offs, residential boiler venting and a heating-season CO check on some natural-draft boilers. Boiler and pressure vessel inspection certificate fees also rose on January 2, 2026.

Are there Ontario boiler rebates?

As of October 2026, the main provincial programs focus on heat pumps, insulation and other upgrades rather than gas boilers. Confirm current offers with Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas.
